Who are we?
Annie Chan
I’m Annie! I am a nurse practitioner with 10 years experience in the urgent, emergent, and primary care setting. I am a mom to my son, Theo and my rescue dog, Walter. Married to my awesome husband, Dru.
I am based in Chicago. But I was born and raised in Massachusetts, found my career and partner in New York (via dating app), and spent a few years in Nashville in between to adopt our dog and make some amazing friends. I am a Chinese-Jew, so I provide the ultimate Christmas dinner.
I am an avid runner and practice lots of yoga, though I make a concerted effort not to be insufferable about it. When I gave birth to my son, I walked out of the hospital with a healthy child and had an “easy recovery”, but I had somewhat of a traumatic birth experience. And I wish for myself and more women to feel comfortable putting that in a podcast bio.
I think I’m funnier than I probably am, and have a healthy sense of self worth while still struggling with crippling insecurities. I’m obsessed with my friends, the Real Housewives franchise, Haruki Murakami, and learning about wine.
I’ve never been to London.
Juyeon and I formed a collaborative clinical relationship a few years back, and realized we had great friendship chemistry. We really hope you like our podcast.
Juyeon Lee
Hi, I’m Juyeon (pronounced Jew-Yon). I’m a Family Medicine physician practicing in a primary care clinic in California. In my early 40s, I’m a mom to my daughter, Haeeun, and a very cuddly Morkie named Wall-E.
I was born in Seattle but spent my childhood in Korea before returning to the U.S. for college — and I’ve been here ever since. My racial identity has always been a bit fluid; while I can fit into multiple groups (Korean, American, Korean-American), I don’t feel entirely defined by any one of them. When people ask, I usually say I’m from Seoul since it’s the city I lived in the longest. One thing is certain though — I have a deep love for Korean food and can’t live without kimchi.
I’m a Christian, a former accountant (very briefly), and a former New Yorker. I even ran a small medical aesthetics side gig while living in NY — though I’ll be honest, I’ve always had pretty "good" skin thanks to genetics. I’m good at billiards. I used to love cooking and playing tennis, but, like many toddler moms, I haven’t had as much time for those lately.
I’m fairly easy-going, a bit of an introvert, and not easily stressed. My superpower is that I can fall asleep pretty much anywhere, anytime. Lately, I’ve been intentional about setting healthier boundaries both personally and professionally.
Being a physician comes with its share of challenges, but it’s also a privilege. It’s incredibly humbling to have patients trust me with their personal stories. Every interaction teaches me something new and helps me continue to grow.
I love listening to podcasts and hearing people’s stories. I hope that the conversations Annie and I share on our podcast not only offer you some helpful healthcare tips but also feel relatable, honest, and maybe even a little bit fun.
